Education and Experience
Carol Frenning is a liturgical design consultant who works with
congregations throughout the country as they build or renovate
their worship spaces. Many of these projects have received awards.
Carol brings to her work a background in art and architecture,
preservation, and liturgy. She has taught the history of art and
architecture at the University of Saint Thomas and at Metropolitan
State University in the Twin Cities and guest lectures at the
University of Minnesota College of Architecture and Landscape
Architecture and at Luther Seminary.
Her main research focus is on American religious architecture.
She is a frequent presenter at major conferences and workshops
throughout the country including Form/Reform, National Trust for
Historic Preservation, and Sacred Trusts.
A certified graduate of the first class of the Institute for
Liturgical Consultants at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago,
Carol serves as founder and past president of the board for the
Association of Consultants for Liturgical Space. She is Vice Chair
of the Interfaith Forum on Religion, Art, and Architecture Committee
of the AIA (American Institute of Architects). And she is active
in local and national chapters of the North American Academy of
Liturgy and the Society of Architectural Historians as well as
past chair of the art and environment committee for the Archdiocese
of St. Paul and Minneapolis.
Carol has recently completed work on a video and study guide
for Luther Seminary. Entitled Architecture for Worship, it highlights
the work of Ed Sovik in a format for use by building committees
and adult forums.
